Backwater Township is closing out their 2026 Maritime & Quebec tour right here in Montreal, and they’re bringing their pals Iguanodon along for the ride. Two amazing acts in one night!

About Backwater Township

Backwater Township is a Montreal-based Indigenous-led jazz fusion collective, led by Mi’kmaq composer and bassist Corey Thomas. Over the past several years they’ve built a reputation as one of the most exciting live acts in the city blending jazz tradition, swing, and indie groove into something that’s hard to pin down and impossible to ignore. Their music has been featured on CBC Radio’s Saturday Night Jazz and the Minotan , and they’ve been recognized by CULTMTL as one of the best jazz acts in Montreal (2023 Best Of List).

This summer they’ve been tearing through New Brunswick, Quebec, and Ontario hitting stages in Fredericton, Moncton, Riverview, Carleton, Campbellton, Ottawa, and Gatineau. After a summer on the road there’s nothing quite like a hometown show.

They’ll also be performing material from their highly anticipated fifth album, releasing later in 2026. The album is built around the nostalgia of teenage youth that feeling when every party was the one you absolutely had to be at, when every emotion hit harder and felt more real than anything before or since. Their new single “No Moshing At The Jazz Hang” is already turning heads a ferocious, bebop-driven burner that channels the spirit of Parker and Coltrane while pushing boldly into new territory.
